Definitely not pleased with this one. I usually don't buy boxes very often, but I was really looking forward to grabbing a box of this year's Allen & Ginter as soon as it came out. With a $99 price tag and a promise of 3 hits, I was willing to spend a little extra with some birthday money left over from a few weeks ago.
Here are the three hits:
1. Aubrey Huff Game-Used Jersey card (scratched up with a ding in the corner, returning to Topps)
2. Martin Prado Game-Used Jersey card
Nothing feels better than breaking open a box, only to get down to that last pack and realize you were shorted a hit. The two hits that I did receive were all the way at the bottom of the box, probably within the last 5 packs I opened. It's disappointing that I didn't get any autographs, because my make-up hit will probably just be another jersey card. Hopefully they'll be out of Aubrey Huff cards and I'll get someone better in return for the damaged one. The rest of the inserts were pretty much seeded as advertised, with an equal distribution from each insert set.
As much as I love buying packs of brands like Gypsy Queen and Allen & Ginter, I've never cared for the mini cards that much. I have a decent amount of them that I'd really like to get rid of, so hopefully someone out there in Legends Land collects these things. I'll add a link on the righthand side of the blog roll, so check back periodically for updates.
I'm not really looking for anything in particular, but I will be seeing the Royals and Twins in a few weeks, so anything of their young players would be nice. I'll also take stuff of the younger guys for the O's or Red Sox if you have any. Make me an offer and get some minis!
Here's a list of my Gypsy Queen minis for now, I'll update with Allen & Ginter/206 cards in the near future:
Last week, I bought 3 jumbo packs of 2012 Topps Series 2, and at least 60% of the cards in each pack were duplicates. Somehow, I still get suckered into buying them week after week, but at least this time I pulled an autograph. This one features the Astro's lone All-Star this year, Jose Altuve, highlighting his rookie debut last season. I don't know much about him, but I can only assume he's doing something right if he made it to the All-Star game in just his second season. At 5 feet 5 inches, he's also the shortest player in the majors right now.
I've picked up a few jumbo packs of this year's Bowman offering, and I have to say, it's the best design I've seen in years. They've finally done away with the fascimile signature on the cards, so there's more room for the picture on the front. I pulled my first auto from the set the other day, featuring Giants prospect Andrew Susac.
Jeff Clement 2/2- Jeff signed my 08 Allen & Ginter, but replaced my 09 Topps U&H with a minor league team set card featuring him with the Indianapolis Indians. A couple years ago, I received cards back unsigned from him, so it was nice to get something back that was signed this time. Sent 2/15 (135 days)
