2012 Allen & Ginter Box Break

Definitely not pleased with this one.  I usually don't buy boxes very often, but I was really looking forward to grabbing a box of this year's Allen & Ginter as soon as it came out.  With a $99 price tag and a promise of 3 hits, I was willing to spend a little extra with some birthday money left over from a few weeks ago.

Here are the three hits:

1. Aubrey Huff Game-Used Jersey card (scratched up with a ding in the corner, returning to Topps)
2. Martin Prado Game-Used Jersey card
3.

Nothing feels better than breaking open a box, only to get down to that last pack and realize you were shorted a hit.  The two hits that I did receive were all the way at the bottom of the box, probably within the last 5 packs I opened.  It's disappointing that I didn't get any autographs, because my make-up hit will probably just be another jersey card.  Hopefully they'll be out of Aubrey Huff cards and I'll get someone better in return for the damaged one.  The rest of the inserts were pretty much seeded as advertised, with an equal distribution from each insert set.

Box Topper:
  • Baseball Highlights Cabinet Card- Craig Kimbrel/Jeremy Hellickson
Inserts:
  •  What's In a Name?- 12 players, my favorite being "Saturnino Orestes Armas Minoso"
  • Baseball Highlight Sketches- Ichiro, Roberto Clemente, Carlton Fisk
  • Murder in Willow Cove- 3 cards, really lame
  • World's Tallest Buildings- Petronas Towers, Metlife Building, Burj Khalifa
  • Historical Turning Points- Battle of Waterloo, Sputnik I, The Renaissance
Short Prints:
  • Frank Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr., Nolan Ryan, Matt Holliday, Adam Wainwright, Matt Garza, Chase Headley, Jayson Werth, Gio Gonzalez, Ryan Roberts, Kelly Johnson, Anibal Sanchez

Highlights from the minis:

  • A&G Back- Nyjer Morgan, Alex Rios, Justin Upton, Jorge DeLarosa, Ben Revere,Carl Crawford
  • People of the Bible- Job  (When I looked at it, I pronounced it just like it looks, then I thought of Arrested Development and remembered it's probably pronounced "Jobe")
  • World's Greatest Military Leaders- Ulysses S. Grant
  • Man's Best Friend- Dachshund
  • Giants of the Deep- Sperm Whale
  • Black Border parallel- Mariano Rivera, C.J. Wilson, Alex Liddi RC
I did pull the base card RC's of Bryce Harper and Yu Darvish, which was nice.  Now if only I could get them signed...
